From the 1950's onwards, after the successful opening of The Marbella Club by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, Hollywood celebrities and Europe's Royal Elite began to make Marbella their preferred holiday destination.

Marbella's was now 'up for sale', with more and more wealthy individuals wanting their piece of paradise. Luxury beachside properties began to be constructed in and around The Marbella Club - now referred to as The Golden Mile.

In the 1960's Gunilla von Bismarck great-granddaughter of Germany's first chancellor, Otto von Bismarck moved into Marbella. She was nicknamed the 'The Queen of Marbella', due to her social connections in the area.

In the 1970's Prince Fahd of Saudi Arabia arrived in Marbella and bought a substancial plot of land - just opposite The Marbella Club. He built a mini replica in Marble of the US presidents government “White House” building. It houses it's own mosque and private hospital. His family now use this as their holiday home.

Lord Alan Sugar bought property in the 70's. He owns a substantial frontline Marbella villa on the Golden Mile.

Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffith own a beach front home just outside Marbella in Los Monteros. Antonio, who was born in Andalusia, is a regular visitor to the area and supports local charities and events.

Sean Connery, has recently hit the headlines over his former villa in Marbella, Casa Malibu. He enjoyed many years in Marbella, being a regular visitor to the restaurants in Puerto Banus. In the 1990's he decided to converted his villa beach front Marbella villa, into 78 luxury apartments, when only 5 villas had been allowed by the towns planning committee. It has been reported that he made over 50 million euros, most of which was taken offshore. His case is still being heard by the Spanish authorities.

Simon Cowel, branded TV’s ” Mr Nasty”, owns a large villa in the Sierra Blanca area of Marbella. This is an exclusive estate where an average plot could cost 4 million euros alone.

James Hewitt moved to Marbella recently to escape his life in the UK. He opened a restaurant on Marbella’s Golden called The Polo Club. This is an upmarket Bistro/French restaurant which has live entertainment for after dinner dancing.

Max Clifford, famous UK PR guru has a home in Nueva Andaluca, Marbella. He brings his famous clients out to Marbella every year to do fund raising activities, raising money for the Rhys Daniels Trust through a Golf Challenge at La Cala Golf, Mijas.
